THE Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 19 commissioners of police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police according to a Nigerian Tribune report.
The officers promoted are, Ambrose O. Aisibor, Kwara State Commissioner of Police; Adebayo Ajileye, Umaru Abubakar Manko, CP Lagos, Joel Kayode Theophilus, CP Jigawa, Wilfred Eje Obute, Felix Osita Uyanna and A. J. Abakasanga.
Others are Jubril Olawale Adeniji, Ibrahim M. Maishanu, Godfrey E. Okeke, Chintua Amajor-Onu, CP Homicide force headquarters, Lawal Tanko, Usman Akila Gwarry, Kalafite Helen Adeyemi, CP Taraba, Yahaya Garba Ardo, Irimiya F. Yerima, Olufemi A. Adenaike, Mbu Joseph Mbu, CP FCT and Patrick Dey Dokumor.
According to the spokesman of the Police Service Commission, Ferdinard Ekpe, all the appointments were with effect from Wednesday.
Ekpe said that the promotions became necessary to fill the vacancies created by recent retirements/promotions in the Force and to reinvigorate and reposition zonal and other commands headed by AIGs, to help tackle the country’s current security challenges.
Also, while congratulating the newly promoted officers, chairman of the commission, Mike Mbama Okiro, urged them to brace up to the responsibilities of their new office, affirming that the commission was working assiduously towards formulating and implementing policies aimed at enhancing discipline and productivity in the Nigeria Police.
Meanwhile, portfolios have been assigned to the newly promoted DIGs by the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba.
They are Dan’Azumi Job Doma, former force secretary, who is now 2IC to the Inspector General of Police, Hilary Okpara; former CP Bayelsa, now the DIG Finance and Administration, Sotonye Wakama; former DIG Anti-terrorist Squad, now DIG Operations, Ibrahim Maman Tsafe; former AIG Zone 2, now DIG Works, while Solomon Arise, former AIG Intelligence, is now DIG force CID.
Others are Salihu Argungu Hashidu, former AIG Zone 5 Benin City, now DIG Training; Christopher K. Katso, former Moderator NIPSS, now DIG Planning and Research, former AIG Zone 11; David Omojola, now DIG ICT and Info-Tech, while AIG Bala Hassan, is now the Force’s Secretary.
