The Mirror, a British tabloid, has revealed that there are 468 Nigerians currently serving prison sentences in the United Kingdom, making Nigeria the country with the seventh highest number of nationals in British jails.
Poland has the highest number of nationals in British jail with 989 prisoners, followed by Ireland and Jamaica with 778 and 711 prisoners respectively.
Polish make up about 9 per cent of the 11,000 foreign inmates behind bars in the UK
Britain is said to spend more than £360million a year to keep foreign inmates in jail.
Other countries on the top ten list are, Romania, Pakistan, Lithuania, Somalia, India and Albania.
That number would definitely not include the duo of Michael Adebowale and Michael Adebolajo, who may be of Nigerian descent but are both British nationals.
It’s the likes of former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, who have made up the list.
