Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay is meeting EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier – after Boris Johnson and Irish PM Leo Varadkar said they could “see a pathway to a possible deal”.
Mr Johnson and Mr Varadkar held “detailed and constructive” talks for more than two hours on Thursday.
Mr Varadkar said the “very positive” meeting meant negotiations could resume in Brussels.
The UK is due to leave the EU at 23:00 GMT on 31 October.
Mr Barclay and Mr Barnier’s talks come ahead of a crunch EU summit on 17 and 18 October, which is seen as the last chance for the UK and the EU to agree a deal ahead of the Brexit deadline.
