Buhari Appoints IIssa Pantami New DG For NITDA

President Buhari has appointed Dr IIssa Pantami, a specialist in Information and Communication Technology from Gombe state, as the new Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency.

Mrs Hadiza Umar, Head, Corporate Affairs of the agency, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Umar, the new D-G, who will be taking over from Dr Vincent Olatunji, the acting D-G, is an Associate Professor of Computer Information System at the Islamic University of Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“Until his appointment, Pantami was a teacher at the Islamic University, Madinah, and the first Nigerian Citizen ever to lecture in the university of more than 63 years of existence.

NITDA’s new boss is an accomplished ICT expert from Gombe and graduated from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

He bagged his B.Sc, M.Sc Computer Science, MBA (Technology) and PhD from the same University.

Pantami lectured at ATBU for more than a decade before joining Islamic University, Madina as Assistant Professor in Computing Systems & Information Technology.

He is an aspiring and encouraging scholar who authored many books and participated as Discussant, Resource person, Speaker, Presenter at various workshops, seminars and conferences at home and abroad.

NITDA, an agency under the Federal Ministry of Communication is tasked with the creation of framework for planning, research, evaluation and regulation of Information Technology practices, activities and systems in Nigeria.
