Chelsea are now sitting comfortably on top of the English Premier league with a two nil win over Newcastle.
Following City’s one-all draw with Everton, Chelsea is now two points clear of the Manchester team on top of the league table.
Before Saturday’s match both Chelsea and City were level on points and goal difference. The only reason Chelsea’s name appeared on top of the league was because in the English alphabet ‘C’ appears before ‘M’.
Chelsea had to wait till the second half when a quickly-taken corner in the 59th minute was converted by Oscar from eight yards to give them the lead.
Chelsea’s second goal did not come until about half an hour later after regulation time. This time around, Diego Costa rounded off a wonderful team move with a low strike to make it two-nil.
Newcastle, one of only two sides to beat Chelsea in the league this season, sought a first league double over the Blues in 28 years, and will rue missed chances in the opening period.
