The Nigerian national football team have met the Icelandic national team only once before in a friendly match played at Laugardalsvöllur, Reykjavík on Saturday 22nd August 1981.
Iceland won the match by three goals to none. The three goals were scored by Marteinn Geirsson, Larus Gudmundsson and Arni Sveinsson.
Interestingly, information is available on the entire starting line-up of the Icelandic team but not a single Green Eagles (as they used to be known by) player that featured in the match has been identified.
The late Gottlieb Goller, a German national, was named as the manager for the Nigerian side and apparently that was the only game he managed the Nigerian side for.
