Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, says Vincent Enyeama will retain the captain’s armband, despite recently finding himself in hot water with the Nigerian Football Federation.
The goalkeeper failed to turn up for a Disciplinary Committee hearing earlier this month after he was called forward to explain his recent criticisms of the security levels in Kaduna ahead of its 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad.
Oliseh has managed to play down the situation while insisting that Enyeama will continue leading the side as it looks ahead to the bi-annual tournament.
“I have listened to the NFF on the Enyeama issue and from their own point of view, they have good reasons for their decision but I will still speak with him to hear his own side of the story,” the coach said.
“He may have spoken out as captain of the team following discussions with his colleagues and not as an individual. There’s nothing wrong with a player speaking out because all of them cannot be talking at the same time. We won’t gag any player because we also have to listen to them. I will get down to the matter because we need to have everyone on the same block.”
