There was a fire outbreak around 9pm Friday night (3am Nigeria time) at the Hilton Winnipeg Airport Suites, where Nigeria’s Super Falcons are staying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Although the cause of the fire was unknown, AfricanFootball.com gathered the fire was later put off by the fire service station.
The incident caused pandemonium as players and officials of the Super Falcons were forced to evacuate their hotel rooms in various states of undress.
Team striker Desire Oparanozie recalling the experience on her Instagram page said, “We all ran out of the hotel because of fire incident and d to the surprise of everyone, some ran out in pants and singlet.
“Thank God for the early intervention of the fire fighters. The evacuation was so damn funny but thank God we have put it behind us because our focus is on our first game against Sweden on Monday.”
The Super Falcons begin their World Cup campaign on Monday against Sweden in Winnipeg.
The kick-off is at 9pm Nigerian time, which is 3pm in Winnipeg.
