John Legend has commented on Kanye West’s meeting with Donald Trump. The singer, who is a good friend of West’s, said that it was a “publicity stunt” and one he would not be replicating, according to an article in harpersbazaar.co.uk.
“I don’t think it’s impossible to talk to [Trump] about issues, but I won’t be used as a publicity stunt,” Legend told the French media outlet Clique. “I think Kanye was a publicity stunt.”
West mentored Legend at the beginning of his career and the two have remained close ever since. Their wives, Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian West are also known to be great friends, with Kardashian West even hosting Teigen’s baby shower earlier this year.
“I think Trump has been corrosive, his message has been corrosive to the country,” Legend continued. “I think the things he has promised to do have been very concerning for a lot of people, and for Kanye to support that message is very disappointing.”
Kardashian West, who has remained silent on social media since her Paris robbery ordeal in September, has not commented on her husband’s meeting with the President-elect.
