Formula One star, Lewis Hamilton, is Britain’s richest sportsman, with wealth totalling £68m according to the latest Sky news report.
The Sunday Times Rich List 2014 for current athletes reveals the F1 driver has £8m richer since last year.
Fellow Formula One driver Jenson Button sits in second with £63m to his name.
Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney is the wealthiest player in the Premier League, worth £60 million from his earnings on and off the field.
Andy Murray’s wealth has increased by a quarter by virtue of his triumph at Wimbledon, from £32m to £40m.
Golfer Padraig Harrington is Ireland’s richest sportsman, with a fortune of £36m, an increase of £2m from 2013.
The list is calculated by looking at identifiable wealth, including land, property, other assets such as art and racehorses, or significant shares in publicly quoted companies.
The full list is due to be published next month.
