Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Thursday raised alarm over the state of the nation’s economy.
Dogara, who stated that the state of the country’s finance was a source of worry, spoke when a delegation from Bauchi State led by the Deputy Governor, Nuhu Gidado, visited him to congratulate him on his emergence as Speaker of the House of Reps.
“We are coming into power at a time when there is problem with our economy. So, we have to do everything in our power to confront the problem,” he said.
Dogara stated that the North-East geopolitical zone had remained the most devastated zone in the country.
He said there was an urgent need for leaders to come together as one to lift the region out of the challenges facing it.
Dogara said he was thankful to God and Nigerians who stood by him to ensure that the position of Speaker went to Bauchi State.
“If I have integrity today, if I have honour today, if I have character today, I did not pick it on the street, I learned it in Bauchi. By your collective leadership, you have produced a leader from Bauchi State”, he stated.
