Police in Enugu are said to be investigating a shooting incident that occurred at traditional marriage ceremony at Ibagwa, Ezimo-Agu in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased, identified as Ozor Obodo Ezenwa, reportedly tried to stop one of the bride’s brothers, Chukwudi Adonu, from shooting his (the assailant’s) brother, Obinna Adonu, during a scuffle but was shot and killed in the process.
The tragic incident, which occurred on 10th October, during a traditional marriage, started with an argument between the two brothers, which quickly escalated.
The assailant, Chukwudi Adonu, was said to gone to get his gun, a single-barreled gun apparently to shoot his brother with.
Unfortunately, the gun went off when the deceased intervened between the two brothers, killing him instantly.
The deceased was about 22 years old.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, mortuary.
A police statement assured “members of the public that the Police will leave up to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property.”
