Yayha Jammeh Returns To Gambia After Coup Attempt

The Gambia’s President, Yayha Jammeh, has returned to the country after Tuesday’s reported coup attempt, according to a BBC report.

Heavy gunfire was heard near the presidential palace in Banjul but officials say the military takeover was thwarted.

Details remain sketchy but Mr Jammeh said there had been an attempted invasion from neighbouring Senegal.

Jammeh seized power as an Army Captain in the tiny West African nation in 1994 before transforming himself into a civilian leader.
