Leonardo DiCaprio has finally won his first Oscar as Best Actor in a year that no single black actor was nominated in that category.
He won the prize for his role in “The Revenant”, after six nominations, which included four nominations for Best Actor.
First time Leonardo was nominated for Best Actor was 2005 for his role in “Aviator” and he lost to Jamie Fox who played legendary musician Ray Charles in “Ray”.
DiCaprio’s second nomination was for “Blood Diamond” in 2007, which Forest Whitaker won for his portrayal of Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland”.
Third nomination was for The “Wolf of Wall Street” with very strong completion from Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave), Christian Bale (American Hustle) and Mathew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club). McConaughey won.
It was fourth time lucky for Leonardo DiCaprio early Monday morning when he was announced as the Best Actor.
