The recent attack on former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Eweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany (coincidentally the same city where the trials of former NAZI party members were held after World War II) has once again divided Nigerians along ethnic lines judging by response to the incident on Twitter.
Those who appear to be in support of IPOB members appear to have one thing in common:
If Nigeria politicians want to know how the people feel about them, they should try moving about the streets without the usually armed security men.
The love from the street will amaze them. #IPOB #IkeEkweremadu

If IPOB continue like this, all the eastern politician will not take us for granted. IPOB should try and stop any politician from Biafra land that is not performing, from accessing facilities abroad. They will have no option than to fix this country. #Stopthem

Nwodo, Umahi, Ikpeazu, Obiano & others, are no longer safe abroad.~IPOB.
They tagged & proscribed IPOB as terrorists. Now terror has a date with them. So sad. pic.twitter.com/gb2v5b6yCU

Stop calling oity IPOB, Ike Ekweremadu was vocal against your principal Proscribing IPOB.
Rather, it was Ndi-Igbo that attacked him.
I believe you've all it takes to travel down there to know what happened. Stop spreading #FakeNews!

Just watched the video where Ike Ekweremadu was taunted by some angry IPOB youths in Germany. It's a message.
Rotimi Amaechi, Orji Uzor Kalu and other accursed slaves working for this govt, your day of reckoning is near

@dino_melaye saw the future. I guess to him what IPOB people did to Ike Ekweremadu doesn't come as a surprise. As leaders you can't continue to push people to the wall and expect them not to fight back.
Afterall, in a lawless society being law abiding would be unlawful pic.twitter.com/xFvtltPwVH

Prominent Yoruba politician and serial Social Media commentator Femi Fani-Kayode appears to be sitting on the fence regarding the issue:
What happened to my friend and brother Sen. Ike Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany at the hands of IPOB is an eye-opener and clear signal to every political leader in southern Nigeria! The people of the south are getting angry and you either stand up and defend them or stand aside!
— Femi Fani-Kayode (@realFFK) August 17, 2019
While another Yoruba personality and serial Social Media commentator did not spare any condemnation of the attack:
GERMAN POLICE MUST DETERMINE THIS AN ACT OF TERRORISM.
2 days ago I reminded you that IPOB members were TERRORISTS. Now they have proved me right on German soil. They tried to lynch former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.#KemiTalksTerrror#KemiOlunloyo pic.twitter.com/bWtsDKRZQK

The brainwashed IPOB rascals have bitten more than what they can masticate. The earlier they are being treated as insurgents the better for the corporate existence of this country. To start with, the FG should deploy Interpol to bring them to book. pic.twitter.com/wI2eO5tkc0

While this Yoruba man condemned both the attackers and victim in the same tweet
Ike Ekweremadu was badly beaten by his ethnic group folks for unknown reasons.
While I will not support violence and assault on anyone, I think he should use the opportunity to reflect on the monster that he and some Eastern politicians created- IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu etc.

Not certain if this gentleman is in support of IPOB or not.
This is Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu former deputy Senate President , a sitting Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the highest ranking Igbo man in the political class in the country , receiving serious beating from his fellow Igbos ( IPOB ) brothers like this yesterday pic.twitter.com/vNauUYbLcg

And from Buhari’s sister:
Ike Ekweremadu is too good to be maltreated this way in Germany, he has always protected the interest of Ndigbo in the red Chamber.
This will also serve as lesson to other politicians like Wike and co, who think that public funds is their personal properties.
