Nigeria’s Okagbare has won a silver medal in the women’s long jump event at the ongoing IAAF World Athletic Champion in Moscow with a jump of 6.99m.
She came second behind 2012 Olympic gold medallist, 26-years-old Britney Reese of the USA who won with a jump of 7.01m. This is the American’s fifth World Athletics Championship gold medal.
The irony of Britney Reese’s success is that she qualified for the final by the skin of her teeth 24 hours ago with an unimpressive jump of 6.57m to claim the last qualifying space in today’s final.
The bronze medal went to Ivana Spanavic of Serbia.
Earlier in the day, Okagbare, who is Nigeria’s best medal hope in the competition, had qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s 100m event.
The semi-final and final of the 100m Women’s race will take place tomorrow.
