Buhari Appoints Mrs Amina Bala Zakari As Acting INEC Chairman

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mrs Amina Bala Zakari as the acting chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the end of Prof Attahiru Jega’s tenure on Tuesday.

Disclosure of her appointment was made in a statement signed by the director of communications at the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Haruna Imrana.

According to the statement, the head of the civil service of the federation, Barr. Danladi Kifasi, who conveyed the appointment in a letter, said Mrs Zakari’s appointment took immediate effect (from yesterday, June 30, 2015) until the appointment of a substantive chairman.
Zakari is presently a national electoral commissioner at INEC.

Meanwhile, Jega had handed over to a national commissioner representing Sokoto State (North-West), Ambassador Mohammed Wali, pending the appointment of a new chairman by President Buhari. Wali will also bow out on August 11, 2015.
