Argentine legend, Lionel Messi, won the Ballon D’or a record sixth time on Monday evening.
It’s the Barcelona forward’s first Ballon d’Or since 2015.
Messi has had a very good year scoring 54 times for his club and country, leading Barca to win La Liga.
The 32-year-old’s win means the Ballon d’Or award has been won by a player from Spain’s La Liga for the last 11 years.
Even if not a surprise, it’s still incredibly impressive. It’s Messi’s first Ballon d’Or since 2015 and at age 32, he’s looking as strong, quick, and incredible as ever. For a player on the wrong side of 30 to take his game back to a superstar level is incredible, and it had folks thinking nostalgic.
Here’s how the world reacted to it:
Messi wins his 6th Ballon d’Or. His numbers this year are once again truly extraordinary. He’s head and shoulders the best player in world football. He plays a game that is both joyous and incomprehensible to mere mortals. The award is totally meritorious. 👏🏻👏🏻
