“I Relocated To Lagos For This Dream Job”

The multi-million dollar hospitality sector in Nigeria, Lagos State in particular, is on the rise and showing no signs of slowing down.

The industry is therefore not for small players and one of the biggest among the domestic players is Blakers Residence, at Agunbiade Bankole Street, Lekki Lagos.

Urnaija had the privilege of speaking with the pioneer General Manager of Blakers Residence, Omotola Johnson, recently.

Urnaija: What exactly attracted you to the Hospitality sector?

Omotola: I have always wanted to work in an industry where I can engage with people from all over the world so when Blakers Residence came calling I couldn’t resist the opportunity. I relocated to Lagos sharp, sharp (laughs)

The hospitality sector stands as one of the most rapidly expanding sectors of the Nigerian economy. A Statista report indicates that the revenue of the Hotels market in Nigeria is projected to reach US$1.52 billion by 2024, with an expected annual growth rate of 4.46% from 2024 to 2028. By 2028, it is projected that the revenue of the Hotels market in Nigeria will reach US$1.81bn.

The same report also says that the number of users in the Hotels market is expected to have increased to 18.93 million by 2028.

Urnaija: Those are very interesting statistics

Omotola: Yes, they are

Urnaija: Tell us a bit about your educational background. Did you study Statistics or Business Analysis?

Omotola: (Laughs). No, I didn’t study Statistics or Business Analysis. I’m a 2019 graduate of History & Diplomacy from the Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Nigerians hold high expectations from hospitality services, and at Blakers Residence, we pledge to fulfill those expectations.

Urnaija: What unique experience is on offer at Blakers Residence?

Omotola: At Blakers Residence, we offer you that Home Away From Home feeling. We make you feel like you’re at your own residence. We could have called it “Blakers Guesthouse” or “Blakers Resort” but we chose to name it Blakers Residence because we’re not giving you the Guesthouse or Resort experience. We want you to feel like you are in your own residence.

Urnaija: Thanks a lot for speaking to us, Omotola and giving us a guided tour of Blakers Residence.

Omotala: Pleasure is all mine
