Know Your Rights To Stop Police Brutality
Did you know that in Nigeria, by law, when a police officer arrests a suspect he has to read him his rights? The Rights are as follows:
1. Right to remain silent;
2. Right to a lawyer;
3. Right to have a Legal Aid solicitor paid for by the government if the suspect cannot afford a lawyer.

Did you know that by Law, on the last working day of every month, the officer in charge of every police station or the officer in charge of any agency authorised to make arrests must submit a record of everyone in their custody, arrested without a warrant, to the nearest Magistrate whether the person has been granted bail or not? S.33(1) ACJA
Did you know that the record referred to above is obtainable from the Attorney General of the Federation upon request by a Non-Governmental Organisation? S.33(4) ACJA
Did you know that the IGP and the head of every agency in Nigeria authorised to make arrests is mandated to make a quarterly report, available to the Attorney General of the Federation, of all arrests made with or without warrants in respect of all federal offences? S.29(1) ACJA
Did you know that the Commissioner of Police of every state is mandated to make a report available to the Attorney-General of that state, a record of all arrests made, with or without warrant, in respect of state offences or arrests within the state? S.29(2) ACJA
Did you know that the Attorney General of the Federation is mandated by Law to have an electronic and manual record of all arrests made in Nigeria at Federal and State levels? S.29(5) ACJA
Finally, did you know that there is an Administration of Justice Monitoring Committee established to ensure that the functions described above are properly carried out by the respective agencies and individuals? S.470(1)
