Demolition of structures built on canals and waterways along Gedegede – Mobil road – Ikota drainage by the Lagos State Government has been hailed by Lagosians on X – formerly Twitter.
According to a post issued on the X account of the honourable Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State, a high powered delegation from the Ministry, led by the honourable Commissioner himself, were on hand to witness the demolition of the said illegal structures.
The honourable Commissioner stated in his X post that “The state government has retriated (sic) its commitment to ensuring flood free communities across the state. However, the realization of the Nigeria we dream of lies in our hands. It is imperative that we collectively change our attitudes and take responsibility for protecting our environment”.
Reactions on Twitter have been largely supportive of the demolition action.
While most comments on X were supportive of the demolition exercise others could not help but wonder how the illegal structures were built without government approval in the first place.
Other X users expressed their sympathies for owners of the demolished structures who must have lost money due to the demolition.
