Furious Leicester supporters began calling for the club to sell Ben Chilwell after the left-back was pictured laughing and joking with Ross Barkley in the wake of their FA Cup elimination at the hands of Chelsea.
The Foxes started the quarter-final the better side and Frank Lampard’s frustrations could be heard on the touchline at the King Power Stadium before he rung the changes at half-time, with Cesar Azpilicueta, Mateo Kovacic and Barkley all introduced.
The substitutions had the desired effect for Lampard as his Chelsea team grew in confidence after the break and Barkley swept home Willian’s cross to give the visitors the lead just past the hour-mark.
Much of the talk ahead of Sunday’s match surrounded the future of Chilwell, who has reportedly been identified as Chelsea’s top target this summer after they completed deals for Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
And Chilwell ensured he would be the subject of further speculation as he was seen sharing a joke with Chelsea’s matchwinner, Barkley, immediately after the final whistle.
The sight of Chilwell laughing just seconds after the loss enraged many Leicester fans and some even demanded that the club cash in on the full-back for his behaviour.
It’s understood an offer of £75million would be enough for Chelsea to land the England international.
