Arsenal’s £42.5m signing, Mesut Ozil, made his debut appearance for Arsenal in their 3-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday.
The German’s first appearance for the gunners had pretty much dominated the pre-match news as Arsenal fans look forward to a chance to see their record signing.
Ozil’s first real contribution to Arsenal’s title campaign was a corner he took in the 6th minute of the match but his delivery was headed out of danger by Sunderland’s Diakite.
Arsenal’s break came through Olivier Giroud in the 11th minute of the match with an Ozil assist after Arsenal had dominated most of the play before that.
Another through ball by Ozil was wasted on Walcott as the English international could not make up his mind before playing the ball into the keeper’s hands. Should have been 2-0 to Arsenal both from Ozil’s assists but the first 45mins ended 1-0 to Arsenal.
Within three minutes into the second half Arsenal conceded a penalty, which was expertly converted by Gardner who buried the ball into the left corner of the net sending Szczesny, Arsenal’s keeper, the wrong way only for him (Gardner) to be booked in the 52nd minute.
The equaliser was a big morale booster for Sunderland but it was not enough for them to score a second goal.
Meanwhile the Arsenal boys themselves piled more pressure on their hosts and it paid off when Ramsey scored Arsenal’s second goal in the 67th minute delivering a powerful shot past the Sunderland goalkeeper having collected the ball from Jenkinson.
The third goal was scored by in the 76th minute by Aaron Ramsey again with an assist from Giroud following a build up that involved Ozil.
The win takes Arsenal to the top of the EPL for the first time this season with nine points from four matches.
