Controversy courting American singer, 20-year-old Miley Cyrus, is in the news again this time for smoking marijuana on stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Her fans have no cause to worry that she will be arrested though as the event was held in Amsterdam where smokers cannot be charged for possession of small amounts and could even be purchased openly in cafes known as “coffee shops”.
She lit the hand-rolled joint while accepting the best video award for “Wrecking Ball” at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam.
The singer, who is trying hard to shake off the Hannah Montana image, opened her “space-themed” show by singing the song, “We Can’t Stop”, wearing a silver spandex suit while demonstrating her version of twerking in a routine with a dwarf.
She arrived at the event and caused a bit of stir because she was wearing a revealing mini-dress with the images of murdered rappers, the Notorious B.I.G and Tupac Shakur with the words, “please stop violence”.
Katy Perry also won an award: for best female singer, edging over Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus to collect her third EMA prize in the process.
