MLS Players Start Season By Taking The Knee For 8mins 46s

Major League Soccer stars took part in a powerful protest against racial injustice as they showed their support for the Black Lives Matter movement and remembered George Floyd ahead of the action returning on Wednesday night.

Orlando City against Inter Miami was the first MLS game to take place since coronavirus shut down sport back in March but stars from teams across the league – not just the two competing in Florida – walked onto the pitch wearing black gloves, face masks and t-shirts related to the movement before a silent demonstration.

The protest lasted eight minutes and 46 seconds – the same amount of time that white police officer Derek Chauvin had his knee pressed on the neck of Floyd, a black American man, who died as a result.
