Plans for Jeremy Clarkson to fly to Barbados for a Top Gear festival may be put on hold after fans threatened to boycott it over Jeremy Clarkson’s recent race row.
He has been billed as one of the stars of the two-day event on May 17 and 18 and is due to fly to the Caribbean in the next fortnight with TV co-presenters Richard Hammond, 44, and James May, 51, as well as race pal Lewis Hamilton, 29.
Furious F1 lover Stephen Maynard, from Swansea has, however, tweeted:
“@JeremyClarkson Barbados is full of black people and on principle I’m boycotting the show there @LewisHamilton.”
Half-Gambian Sports pundit Mark Bright also waded in, tweeting: “Ironic that TopGear’s destination this month is #Barbados suggest @JeremyClarkson doesn’t do the Eeny, Meeny, Miny Moe nursery rhyme there.”
Clarkson initially denied using the “n-word” after the Daily Mirror posted footage of him saying it under his breath while filming an episode of Top Gear Series 19 in Surrey.
In the segment, which never made the final edit, Clarkson is seen using the rhyme as he struggles to decide which of a Toyota GT86 or a Subaru BRZ is the best car.
Twelve hours after the story broke, he was begging forgiveness from fans. He said he had written to production staff asking them to erase the clip after listening to it and realising it “appeared” he had said something offensive.
