A motor mechanic popularly called Ibadan in the Ifako area of Bariga, Lagos State, was on Tuesday crushed to death when the ropes holding up a Honda salon car he was working under snapped suddenly making the car fall on top of him, the Daily Independent reports.
The mechanic who was an indigene of Ibadan in Oyo State was said to have celebrated the birth of his first baby boy two weeks ago having had two girls earlier.
Eye witness account told reporters that the mechanic who operated close to his residence had been working on the engine of the Honda car for two days before the tragic incident.
Witnesses said he sustained severe injury to the chest, the head and was bleeding profusely from the mouth and head.
Sources said he was immediately rushed to the emergency unit of General Hospital Gbagada, where doctors attempted to save his life but was confirmed dead 15 minutes later.
He was described as easy going and loved by his neighours, friends and fellow artisans in the locality who saw him shortly before the incident at about 6pm. They expressed shock at the death of the mechanic, adding that he will be missed for his humility.
His wife who was to have travelled to his home town apparently on a thank you visit to her in-laws and friends that came for the christening of their new baby could not be immediately contacted as sympathizers streamed in large numbers to console the family of the deceased.
