Nigerian Woman Gives Birth On Board BA Flight
A British Airways plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a Nigerian woman went into premature labour and gave birth on board as the aircraft touched down in Palma, Majorca, Spain.
The mother, identified as, Ujunwa Eneh Ozeh, who turned 31 on Friday, was one of the 296 passengers on board the flight and said to be 26 weeks into her pregnancy.
The Boing 777 was flying from Abuja to London.
The flight was diverted to Palma in Spain after the woman went into labour.
The Independent quoted a British Airways official who said, “Our cabin crew, who are trained in birthing procedures, assisted with the delivery of a baby on board our flight from Abuja. The Captain diverted the aircraft to Panama so that mum and baby could be taken to hospital. We are in touch and will continue to provide any support and help we can. We wish the mother and her little one all the very best.”
The woman and her baby were taken to a hospital and are said to be in a stable condition.
The aircraft continued its journey to London and arrived two hours behind schedule.
