Nigerians React To Closure Of Alaba Market
Nigerians have been reacting to the closure of the popular Alaba market by the Lagos State government on Monday.
The closure of the market was announced via the X account Tokunbo Wahab, Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State.
The commissioner wrote, Alaba International Market, Ojo has been sealed up for poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay their waste bills and gross environmental sanitation offences.
Here are some of the reactions that followed the announcement:
I love this ! going from Market to Market, it’s surprising to see other Markets are not taking proactive measures to avoid being closed

Some Nigerians can be somehow, you see other market being sealed for one particular reason "poor waste disposal practice" and you wait and do nothing until they come sealed your market too.
This "I don't care" attitude need to change if we want this country to progress.

Pls sustain this so it becomes a culture to the marketers, not a one off thing. And also make sure it doesn't open the door to your officers extorting.

While some hailed the government’s actions others questioned the rationale behind it.
So, in your strategy room, you came out with the plan of shutting markets regardless of how clean and organized they are. You have not meet the leaders and talked on way forward. You closed down, incurring losses without due process.

You people are the unserious ones , you need to put a good mechanism for waste disposal and Employ road cleaners . Govement has always failed to provide clear policy directions on that front
