A statement released by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has clarified a confusion caused by the announcement that Pastor Enoch Adeboye, fondly referred to as “Daddy G.O” has retired as the head of the RCCG.
Most publication, including Urnaija, erroneously reported that Pastor E.A Adeboye was stepping down as the General Overseer of the RCCG but that is not the case.
According to the statement, released by Pastor J.F Odesola, assistant General Overseer (Admin & Personnel), Pastor E.A Adeboye will remain the Spiritual Leader and Global Missioner (General Overseer) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God worldwide but will be stepping down as the NATIONAL OVERSEER of the RCCG in Nigeria and that position (of national overseer in Nigeria) will be taken up by Pastor Joseph Obayemi.
This move is in compliance with a new legal requirements set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria through its Financial Regulations Council, guiding all registered churches, mosques, CSOs etc. It stipulates that leaders of religious organization(s) shall have a maximum period of twenty years to lead their organization(s). In retirement, they are not permitted to hand over to their families amongst other rules.
