Brazil’s four-nil victory over Denmark in their last group stage match at the on-going Olympic games means the Nigeria U-23 team will not face hosts, Brazil, at the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
Brazil win over Denmark puts the hosts at the top of Group A meaning they would meet Colombia, Runners-up in Nigeria’s Group B.
Colombia beat Nigeria 2-0 in their last group match securing a convincing qualification for the quarter-final where they will meet Brazil in a South-American derby.
Despite the 2-0 loss to Colombia Nigeria still top the group with six points earned from beating the other two members of the group, Japan and Sweden, who have now been eliminated from the competition.
Colombia will play their quarter-final clash against Brazil in Sao Paulo on Saturday, while Nigeria travels to Salvador for their last-eight encounter against Denmark.
