Parts of a shopping centre in Sittingbourne, Kent collapsed on Saturday evening causing a large part of the town to be evacuated for safety reasons.
Emergency services were called to the Bell Centre, which local press reports had been earmarked for demolition, around 1800 hrs Saturday evening.
Pictures taken from the scene show that a part of the building had fallen on and destroyed some cars parked along the road.
The fire services confirm that houses and a pub have been evacuated as a precaution.
No injuries were reported and it is also not believed that anybody has been trapped inside the building.
The Bell Centre has been unused for several years and was due to be redeveloped into a Travelodge hotel.
Police, firefighters and a structural engineer are on the scene to investigate the cause of the collapse.
