A Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Isabo in Abeokuta has remanded a 19-year-old man, Kashi Kaye, in Oba Prison for allegedly killing a six-year-old boy with a dane gun.
The accused person was reportedly playing with the gun which, unknown to him, was loaded.
According to him, he tampered with the trigger and accidentally shot the deceased, Lateef Popoola, who was just returning from school.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ozimini told the court on Monday that the offence was committed on August 17 at about 1 p.m. at Ojebiyi, Odedan, Abeokuta.
According to Ozimini, the offence contravened Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
Kaye’s plea was not taken by the court on the charge of manslaughter because he was not represented by a counsel.
The Magistrate, Mr. Emanuel Adekunte, adjourned the matter till December 6, and ruled that the accused person be remanded in custody till that date.
