Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has backed Lionel Messi to beat Erling Haaland to the Ballon d’Or.
The Argentina international is favourite to take home the coveted annual prize this year following his historic exploits at the tournament in Qatar.
Messi became a world champion for the first time in his career, following a talismanic run of six goals on the way to lifting the famous gold trophy.
Speaking on CBS Sports, Henry was in no doubt about Messi’s case this year, saying: “I mean a lot of people can debate that but for me if you win the World Cup, the way he did it, we can talk about what happened in the final. As a Frenchman, I was a little bit disappointed with how it finished but you can’t say that it isn’t deserved if he wins it.”
