The U-23 football team won a nerve-wrecking bronze medal match against Honduras earlier on Saturday to give Nigeria her first Olympic medal since the 2008 games in Beijing.
Nigeria took the lead through Sadiq Umar in the 34th minute through a cross from skipper John Obi Mikel.
Aminu doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 46th minute and Sadiq Umar made it three nil in the 56th minute.
The Hondurans, however fought hard in their attempt to win a first ever Olympic medal for their country and pulled two of the goals back when Anthony Lozano scored in the 71st minute and Marcelo Perreira scored in the 86th minute.
The Nigerian U-23 team managed to hold their nerves for the remaining four minutes of regulation time and four minutes of added time to put Nigeria on the Rio 2016 Olympic medal table.
